Enfant, Bill Graham parvient à fuir l'Europe pour échapper au nazisme. Au début des années 1960, il rejoint San Francisco. Après plusieurs expériences réussies de management de groupes de rock, il décide d'en faire sa carrière et fonde la célèbre salle de concert Le Filmore où toutes les icônes du rock et de la contre-culture sont lancées : Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplaine, Cream, etc.
